Damoh, March 27: The PM Solar Home Scheme is transforming energy consumption in Madhya Pradesh’s Bundelkhand region. This initiative has reached villages and towns, providing relief and a new source of income for many residents.
In Tendukheda, a town in Damoh district, the impact of this scheme is evident. Residents have installed solar panels on their rooftops, generating up to 3 kilowatts of power. These solar systems have halved their electricity bills, with some families enjoying nearly free electricity.
Previously, during the summer months, consumers faced hefty bills. However, the use of solar panels has brought significant relief, improving the financial stability of many households.
One of the scheme’s standout features is the subsidy of up to ₹78,000 provided by the central government, which is directly transferred to beneficiaries’ bank accounts. Additionally, zero-interest bank financing is available, making it easier for those in need to benefit from the program.
Beneficiary Swapnil Jain shared that he learned about the ₹78,000 subsidy for a 3-kilowatt solar panel through the post office. After contacting a vendor, he installed the panels on his roof. His electricity bill, which used to reach ₹4,000 to ₹5,000 in summer, now only amounts to ₹400 to ₹500.
Jain expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives for empowering India.
Another beneficiary, Santosh Yadav, discovered the scheme through social media, prompting him to install solar panels as well. His previous bills of ₹2,000 to ₹3,000 have now dropped to ₹400 to ₹500.
The solar panels installed on rooftops generate approximately 25 to 30 units of electricity daily. A special meter stores this electricity, allowing excess power to be sent directly to the electricity department, providing financial benefits to consumers.
Yadav noted that his solar panels produce electricity for about 25 to 28 minutes each day. This power is transferred directly to the electricity department via a smart meter, with annual payments made directly to the beneficiaries’ accounts. He added that the solar panel scheme includes a feature that allows users to monitor daily electricity production and earnings through a mobile app.
Overall, the PM Solar Home Scheme is a significant step towards realizing the dream of an self-reliant India in Damoh. It not only provides affordable and clean energy but also opens new avenues for income, empowering local communities.
