Empowering Homestay Owners: A Five-Day Training Program in Lucknow

Lucknow, March 19: In a significant move to boost tourism in Uttar Pradesh, the Manav Kanchiram Institute of Tourism Management (MKITM) has organized a five-day entrepreneurship development program for homestay owners from across the state. Running from March 16 to 20, this training involves 31 participants who are learning the intricacies of efficient homestay operations, modern tourism skills, and enhanced hospitality services.

This initiative is a crucial step towards realizing the commitment of “hospitality to self-reliance.” Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh stated that the state government is continuously focusing on innovation and skill development to elevate tourism in Uttar Pradesh. The entrepreneurship development program for homestay owners is not only a vital step towards self-reliance but also aims to empower rural tourism and strengthen the local economy.

With the increasing influx of domestic and international tourists, the homestay model is emerging rapidly in Uttar Pradesh. This trend is not only increasing the availability of accommodation but also creating numerous job opportunities. During the training at MKITM, participants received detailed information about the concept of homestays, their necessity, and availability. The program taught effective homestay systems that can be developed at low costs, alongside various tariff plans, budgeting, and cost control techniques.

Additionally, participants were educated on problem-solving, service improvement, homestay maintenance, and essential aspects of interior decoration. To promote rural tourism, there is a strong emphasis on modernizing and professionalizing homestay operators. The training program also covered social media strategies and digital payment methods, as well as guest registration and providing essential information to tourists.

Special attention was given to cleanliness and maintenance of homestays, along with a comprehensive understanding of responsible tourism, ensuring tourists have a better and memorable experience. The five-day training program included lessons on energy conservation, alternative energy use, superior hospitality management, and customer service nuances.

Moreover, personality development, standardization of food items, and promotion of local products were highlighted. On the fourth day, participants received course materials and certificates. The program consisted of four days of theoretical sessions followed by a practical farm visit on the fifth day. Participants from Lucknow, Varanasi, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bareilly, Siddharthnagar, Ambedkarnagar, Shahjahanpur, Kasganj, and Unnao described this initiative as a game changer for rural tourism.

Homestay operators like Devendra Singh from Shahjahanpur, Akash Singh from Kasganj, and Rahul Kumar from Buxar in Unnao expressed that this training will significantly aid them in managing their businesses more effectively and providing better experiences for tourists. They extended their gratitude to the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department and the skilled trainers at MKITM.

The state government believes that homestays will become a strong foundation for tourism in the future. Their vision is clear: to provide tourists with safe, comfortable accommodations, quality food, and a homely atmosphere, ensuring every traveler returns with a unique experience. Consequently, homestays are becoming a cost-effective alternative to expensive hotels across the state, increasing the responsibility of operators to realize the commitment of “hospitality to self-reliance.”
