DRG and Maoists Clash in South Bijapur Amid Ongoing Anti-Naxal Operation

Bijapur, Chhattisgarh: Security forces launched a large-scale search operation in the southern region of Bijapur district following credible intelligence about armed Maoist presence. Since early morning, a series of encounters between the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Maoist insurgents have been underway.

The operation began in the pre-dawn hours when a special DRG team was deployed into the forested Naxal-affected area. Authorities acted swiftly after receiving inputs suggesting that Maoists were planning a major incident in the region.

According to sources, while advancing deeper into the jungle, DRG personnel came under sudden gunfire from Maoist cadres around 7 a.m. The security forces responded promptly, resulting in intermittent exchange of fire. The intense gunbattle has created a tense atmosphere across the area.

Following the initial confrontation, additional security units were dispatched to seal off all possible escape routes to prevent the Maoists from fleeing. Due to the dense forest and hilly terrain, the operation is being conducted with utmost caution and strategic planning, ensuring the safety of the personnel involved.

Superintendent of Police Dr. Jitendra Yadav confirmed that all security forces remain safe and that the operation is closely monitored by senior officials. He appealed to local residents to stay away from the affected zone and advised against spreading rumours. The police continue to keep a vigilant watch on the situation.

The search and engagement are still ongoing as security forces meticulously comb the area to capture or neutralise the Maoist elements. Further details regarding casualties, seized arms, or other findings will be disclosed once the operation concludes.
