Chennai, February 11: The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party in Tamil Nadu is gearing up for the upcoming assembly elections. However, it has postponed discussions on seat-sharing with its alliance partners for a few days. DMK announced that formal negotiations regarding seat-sharing will commence on February 22, following the conclusion of the state budget session.
The party stated that Chief Minister and DMK President M.K. Stalin will soon form a special committee to facilitate these discussions. An official statement from the party headquarters confirmed that the Tamil Nadu assembly’s budget session will start on February 17 and run until February 21. During this period, senior leaders and ministers will be fully occupied with legislative responsibilities, prompting the delay in alliance discussions until February 22.
The statement read, “Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will soon announce the formation of a committee to negotiate seat-sharing with alliance parties.” DMK MP Kanimozhi recently reiterated that the relationship between the party and Congress remains strong and positive. She expressed confidence that the discussions would progress smoothly, emphasizing the stability of the current alliance.
However, it is clear that the party is poised to shift into election mode immediately after the budget session concludes. DMK also noted that its leaders and cadre are actively engaged in extensive grassroots work across Tamil Nadu. They are participating in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls to ensure that every eligible voter is included.
According to the statement, millions of DMK workers are dedicated to ensuring that every eligible voter’s name is on the rolls. Additionally, the party has intensified its mobilization efforts across the state through campaigns like “My Booth, Winning Booth.”
Party officials are organizing conferences for youth and women’s wings, setting up booth-level training camps, and working to connect people with government welfare schemes.
Meanwhile, senior leaders working on the DMK’s election manifesto committee are touring various districts to gather feedback and suggestions from the public. The party reported that the panel has already received over 75,000 recommendations from citizens and stakeholders.
