
Ujjain, August 20: On the auspicious occasion of Shravana Shukla Paksha Ashtami, the Mahakaleshwar Temple held a mesmerizing Bhasma Aarti for Lord Mahakal. A large number of devotees gathered to witness this divine spectacle.
Early Thursday morning, after seeking the blessings of Lord Veerabhadra, the doors of the temple were opened with the sound of drums and trumpets. As the devotees caught their first glimpse of Baba Mahakal following the enchanting adornment and Bhasma Aarti, the temple echoed with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.” The atmosphere was filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and the recitation of mantras. Lord Mahakal was beautifully adorned with bhang, sandalwood, and dry fruits.
With the opening of the temple gates, amidst the chanting of mantras, Lord Mahakal was bathed with Panchamrit made from milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and fruit juices. Baba Mahakal wore the moon on his forehead. During the worship, the first bell was rung, and Hari Om water was offered. After the camphor Aarti, Baba adorned a crown. Following this, the Bhasma Aarti was performed with the accompaniment of cymbals, drums, and conch shells, showcasing the grandeur of Baba Mahakal.
The temple priest conducted the Maha Aarti, allowing a significant number of devotees to witness the Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal. Many devotees had queued since the previous night to have a glimpse of their revered deity. During the Bhasma Aarti, it is customary for men to wear traditional dhoti and women to wear sarees.
Olympic shooter Manu Bhaker also visited Baba Mahakal. She expressed her long-standing desire to visit the Mahakaleshwar Temple and shared her joy about finally being able to come. She appreciated the arrangements made at the temple and prayed for the continued blessings of Mahakaleshwar upon everyone.
