Srinagar, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : Authorities in Kashmir have apprehended a notorious fraudster, Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Dar, in connection with a land and property scam valued at ₹93 lakhs. The arrest was made by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Jammu and Kashmir Crime Branch on September 18, 2026, following a warrant issued by a sub-judge in Srinagar.
Dar, son of Abdul Khalik Dar, hails from Jawaharpora in Budgam. He had been evading capture for over a year and faces multiple criminal charges, including one filed under FIR number 17/2026 by the EOW.
The case originated from a written complaint alleging that Dar, in collaboration with an accomplice, defrauded a victim of ₹93 lakhs. His partner, Somnath Kaul, is the son of Kalash Nath Kaul and resides in Bangalore North, Karnataka.
Investigations revealed that the duo misled victims by falsely selling five kanals of migrant land in Pulwama and 300 standing trees in Bijbehara. They created fake agreements to facilitate the scam, even opening a bank account on the same day the money was transferred to withdraw the funds.
Both suspects posed as property owners or attorneys, luring unsuspecting individuals with false promises of selling migrant property. A manhunt is currently underway for the fugitive accomplice, Somnath Kaul, as police delve deeper into their network and the broader operation.
