New Delhi, February 23: Poor diet and irregular routines can severely impact health, leading to various digestive issues. Yoga and specific asanas can help maintain a healthy body. One such asana is Udarakarshanasana, which aids in relieving problems like constipation, gas, indigestion, bloating, and acidity.
Udarakarshanasana is a vital yoga posture, particularly beneficial for the lower abdomen, digestive system, and spine health. Additionally, it plays a significant role in detoxifying the body.
The term ‘Udar’ means ‘belly’ and ‘akarshana’ translates to ‘pulling’ or ‘constricting’. This traditional yoga practice involves applying specific pressure and stretching to the abdomen, activating and strengthening the digestive system.
The Ministry of AYUSH has also highlighted its importance. According to the ministry, Udarakarshanasana primarily helps strengthen abdominal muscles, alleviate constipation, and enhance digestive processes. This asana stimulates the apana vayu, providing relief from pain in the lower abdomen and lower back.
Practicing this asana is quite simple. To begin, sit in a squatting position on a yoga mat, maintaining a distance of about one to one and a half feet between your feet. Place your palms on your knees. As you exhale deeply, lower your right knee to the ground near your left foot while keeping your left knee upright. Turn your head as far left as possible.
By practicing this asana for just 5-10 minutes daily, you can keep your abdomen healthy and light. However, individuals with ulcers, hernias, severe back pain, or those who have recently undergone surgery should consult a doctor before attempting this pose.
