
Ujjain, March 5: The renowned Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain celebrated a special adornment of Lord Mahakal on the second date of the Krishna Paksha in the Chaitra month. During the morning Bhasma Aarti, a large number of devotees gathered in the temple premises.
Devotees began arriving late Wednesday night from far and wide, eager to have a glimpse of Baba Mahakal. The temple echoed with chants of “Jai Mahakal,” reflecting the devotion and faith visible on the faces of the attendees.
The Bhasma Aarti is performed by the Mahanirvani Akhara, where devotees are blessed with a vision of the formless becoming form. Following the Bhasma Aarti, a water offering was made to Baba, along with a ceremonial worship using Panchamrit and a special bathing ritual with sacred ash.
The Bhasma Aarti at the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Madhya Pradesh included a water offering, Panchamrit worship, and a unique bathing ceremony with holy ash. The Panchamrit consisted of pure milk, fresh yogurt, ghee, sugar, honey, and various fruit juices. After the abhishek, a grand Bhasma Aarti took place, where sacred ash was offered to Baba, followed by the Aarti.
Subsequently, Baba was adorned with sandalwood and a crescent moon was placed on His forehead, along with a new crown and a garland of flowers. Devotees were visibly delighted by Baba’s magnificent adornment, which varies daily.
The Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal is famous both nationally and internationally, attracting visitors from all over. To participate in the Bhasma Aarti, devotees must register online in advance and obtain a token or number for the day. A fee set by the temple is also required for registration.
