New Delhi, March 9: Every temple in India has a history intertwined with our ancient texts. Each temple’s significance is highlighted by mythological tales that set them apart from others.
Among the 51 Shakti Peeths, the Maa Kalika Temple in Gujarat’s Panchmahal district is unique. During Navratri, devotees trek 800 meters to reach the temple for darshan.
Located in Pavagadh, Gujarat, the famous Kalika Temple is revered throughout the state. It is one of India’s prominent and ancient Shakti Peeths, where every wish is believed to be fulfilled. Those troubled by tantra also seek solace here, as it is believed that Maa Kalika alleviates both physical and mental ailments. This is why many people suffering from such issues visit the temple.
During Chaitra and Sharadiya Navratri, millions of devotees flock to the temple, praying to Maa Bhavani for relief from their troubles. The path to the temple is not difficult, as visitors can climb approximately 1,800 steps or take advantage of the ropeway service. Special prayers, kirtans, and yajnas are organized during Navratri, attracting countless devotees.
The temple, perched at an elevation of 800 meters, offers breathtaking views of Pavagadh. Its architecture reflects South Indian styles. Legend has it that when Lord Shiva was in anguish over the body of Goddess Sati, Lord Vishnu used his Sudarshan Chakra to dismember her body to save creation from destruction.
It is believed that Sati’s right foot fell at this site, with other accounts suggesting her chest also fell here. This is why the location is regarded as one of the most powerful energy centers. Upon entering the temple, devotees often report experiencing divine energies.
