Devotees Flock to Ujjain for Divine Mahakal Darshan

Ujjain, April 6: The world-renowned Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple witnessed a spectacular scene on Monday during the auspicious occasion of Vaishakh Krishna Paksha Chaturthi. Thousands of devotees queued overnight to witness the divine adornment of Lord Mahakal during the morning Bhasma Aarti.

Early in the morning, many devotees participated in the Bhasma Aarti, eagerly awaiting their chance to see the deity and observe the sacred rituals. The entire temple resonated with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal,” creating a vibrant atmosphere.

The Bhasma Aarti, which commenced at 4 AM, featured a special adornment for Baba Mahakal. According to tradition, the temple doors were opened at dawn. The morning Bhasma Aarti is performed by the Mahanirvani Akhara, allowing devotees to see Mahakal in both formless and form manifestations. Following the Aarti, Baba was bathed with water, offered Panchamrit, and given a special bath with sacred ash.

After the bathing ritual, a grand Bhasma Aarti was conducted, where offerings were made to Mahakal. The deity was beautifully adorned, with a stunning decoration of Mahakal’s face resembling a lotus. A clear tripund (three horizontal lines) was marked on Baba’s forehead, along with a crescent moon, and he was adorned with a new crown and floral garlands. Fresh Bilva leaves and colorful flower garlands enhanced the beauty of the adornment, delighting all who witnessed it.

Following the adornment, a camphor Aarti was performed, and offerings were made to Baba. This form of Mahakal is considered a tangible manifestation. The Bhasma Aarti of Mahakal holds significant importance worldwide, attracting devotees from far and wide to experience its sacredness.
