Devotees Flock to Temples on Second Day of Chaitra Navratri

Noida, March 20: On the second day of Chaitra Navratri, devotees are fervently worshipping Goddess Durga in her second form, Mata Brahmacharini. Since morning, a steady stream of worshippers has been observed at temples. They seek blessings from Mata Brahmacharini for penance, sacrifice, self-control, and wisdom.

According to religious beliefs, Mata Brahmacharini symbolizes penance and devotion. The term ‘Brahma’ refers to penance, while ‘Charini’ means one who practices it. Legend has it that she undertook severe penance to win Lord Shiva as her husband, which led to her divine form.

Mythological accounts describe Mata Brahmacharini as a manifestation of Brahma’s power, believed to have emerged from his kamandalu (water pot). She plays a crucial role in the creation of the universe. It is said that when the expansion of creation was stalled, Brahma’s power facilitated its continuation. This is why, in Indian culture, women are revered as the foundation of creation and the source of life.

Mata Brahmacharini is depicted in a simple and ascetic form. She holds a rosary in her right hand and a kamandalu in her left, symbolizing devotion, self-discipline, and spiritual strength. This form conveys a message of self-control and patience to her devotees. According to religious beliefs, those who worship and meditate on this day with sincerity are blessed with knowledge, detachment, and mental peace.

Students and practitioners especially pray to her on this day to enhance their concentration and inner strength. The second day of Navratri emphasizes meditation, chanting, and yoga practices. It is believed that worship on this day infuses positive energy into life, enabling individuals to face challenging situations.

Across the country, a spirit of devotion and reverence prevails during this auspicious occasion of Navratri, with everyone seeking Mata Brahmacharini’s blessings for happiness, peace, and prosperity.
