Somnath, February 15: A remarkable scene of devotion is unfolding at the Somnath Jyotirlinga, one of the twelve revered shrines of Lord Shiva, on the occasion of Mahashivratri. Devotees are patiently waiting in long lines to seek darshan, singing bhajans in praise of the deity. The atmosphere is particularly vibrant among women, who are joyfully singing wedding songs celebrating Lord Shiva’s union.
One devotee expressed, “I have come to pray at Somnath for Mahashivratri, and the arrangements here are excellent. Despite the crowd, we have ample opportunity for darshan. The morning mangal aarti was beautiful, and everything is well-organized. I believe everyone should visit at least once.” Praising Prime Minister Modi, she added, “The government has made significant efforts regarding the temple’s cleanliness and organization, and development in the state is progressing rapidly.”
Meanwhile, at the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga in Gujarat, a large number of devotees are also arriving for darshan. Authorities anticipate that the crowd may increase by evening and have made all necessary arrangements to manage it. Goswami priest Girdhar Bharti stated, “Nageshwar is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, and we have made excellent arrangements for Mahashivratri. The temple will conduct mangal aarti, Rudrabhishek, and Jalabhishek, and devotees can also participate in special pujas. In the evening, the deity will be adorned with flowers, and a Rudrabhishek with sixteen different offerings will take place at night.”
In addition to Nageshwar, the Nav Kashi Vishwanath Dham is witnessing a massive influx of devotees on Mahashivratri. Officials expect over two hundred thousand devotees to participate in the Jalabhishek at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. A temple administration official noted that for the past twenty-five years, special pujas have been organized on Mahashivratri, making it a beloved temple for Lord Shiva, as it was established to honor the glory of Kashi Vishwanath.
