Mumbai, March 24: The renowned Maihar Devi Temple, located in the Satna district of Madhya Pradesh, witnessed a massive influx of devotees on the sixth day of Chaitra Navratri. Early Tuesday morning, the temple was bustling with visitors eager to glimpse the divine form of the goddess.
At 3 AM, the temple gates opened, echoing with the chants of “Jai Mata Di” as the Trikoot Mountain resonated with devotion. The atmosphere was filled with faith and reverence, making the sixth day of Navratri even more spiritually uplifting.
Following the opening of the temple, the idol of Goddess Sharda was adorned with exquisite decorations, including floral garlands and new garments. This elaborate adornment is traditionally performed by Dada Maharaj. The morning rituals included chanting of mantras and a grand aarti accompanied by drums and traditional music, further enhancing the temple’s vibrant ambiance.
On the sixth day of Chaitra Navratri, devotees worship Goddess Katyayani, and for nine consecutive days, different forms of the goddess are revered with special aartis. The influx of devotees began a day prior to Navratri and continues to swell during this festive period. The temple is particularly crowded during the Chaitra and Sharadiya Navratris, which feature large fairs and elaborate decorations.
The Maihar Devi Temple is perched at an elevation of 600 feet on Trikoot Mountain in the Satna district, making it a significant Siddhpeeth. It is recognized as one of the 51 Shakti Peeths, believed to be the site where a part of Goddess Sati’s body fell. Visitors can reach the temple either by climbing stairs or via a ropeway.
