Devotees Flock to Mahakal Temple for Divine Bhasma Aarti

Ujjain, April 1: A massive influx of devotees gathered at the world-renowned Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain on Wednesday morning. Thousands participated in the famous Bhasma Aarti, held during the Brahma Muhurta. The temple reverberated with chants of “Har Har Mahadev,” creating a divine atmosphere.

The Bhasma Aarti is a significant and ancient tradition of the temple, taking place at 4 AM. This Wednesday’s ceremony was particularly memorable. The sacred ash, the resonance of mantras, and the unwavering faith of the devotees transformed the environment into a spiritual haven. Pilgrims traveled from far and wide to seek the blessings of Baba Mahakal.

During the Bhasma Aarti, sacred ash is offered to the deity, symbolizing his Rudra form. The morning rituals commenced with the opening of the temple doors, followed by a ceremonial water offering by the Mahanirvani Akhara, and a subsequent bathing with Panchamrit. This Panchamrit consists of pure milk, fresh yogurt, ghee, sugar, honey, and various fruit juices. After the abhishekam, a grand Bhasma Aarti was conducted, where devotees witnessed Baba in both formless and manifest forms, symbolized by the sacred ash.

Following the Aarti, Lord Mahakal was adorned with flowers, sandalwood, and other sacred materials. The sight of Baba Mahakal in his decorated form was breathtaking. After the decoration, a camphor Aarti was performed, followed by the offering of bhog.

The daily Bhasma Aarti at Mahakaleshwar Temple attracts not only locals but also pilgrims from across the nation and abroad. Its uniqueness lies in the use of sacred ash, reminding devotees of Lord Shiva’s eternal power.
