
Lucknow, April 15: A massive fire broke out in the Development Nagar area of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday, reducing several slums to ashes. The flames were so intense that they sent shockwaves through the neighborhood, with smoke visible for miles.
According to officials, the fire ignited in a slum settlement located on vacant land along the Ring Road in Sector 12 of Development Nagar. Initially, the blaze started from one hut and rapidly spread throughout the area due to strong winds, engulfing numerous shanties and affecting thousands of residents.
Eyewitnesses reported chaos in the settlement as residents fled in panic to save their lives. The fire department dispatched over 20 vehicles to the scene, and after several hours of hard work, they managed to partially control the fire by nightfall.
In the aftermath of the incident, police, administrative, and SDRF teams were deployed to the site. Relief and rescue operations are ongoing.
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak visited the site and stated that all resources have been mobilized to extinguish the fire, and immediate medical assistance is being provided to the injured. He has also ordered an investigation into the cause of the fire.
On social media platform X, Deputy Chief Minister Pathak expressed his sorrow over the tragic incident in Development Nagar, stating that he immediately arrived at the scene to assess the situation and directed health and administrative officials to ensure prompt and quality treatment for the injured.
He emphasized the need for a high-level investigation and instructed the District Magistrate, Police Commissioner, Chief Development Officer, Municipal Commissioner, NDRF, and other officials to provide necessary support, including housing and food arrangements for the affected families.
Pathak further remarked that the pain of the affected families is shared by the government, assuring that the state will stand by them during this difficult time.
District Magistrate Vishakh reported that affected families are being temporarily relocated to shelters, and arrangements for their rehabilitation are underway.
Police Commissioner Amarendra Kumar Sengar confirmed that the situation is now under control and there have been no reports of significant casualties.
Currently, the administration is focused on investigating the incident and determining the cause of the fire.
