New Delhi, April 15: The death toll from the tragic incident at the Vedanta Power Plant in Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district has risen. Four individuals lost their lives at the scene, while additional fatalities occurred during treatment.
In total, four people died on-site, and 14 others succumbed to their injuries in various hospitals in Raigarh. Two of these deaths occurred at the Kalda Hospital in Raipur.
Currently, 16 individuals remain hospitalized and are receiving medical care.
The accident, which involved a boiler explosion, took place on Tuesday afternoon. The Chief Minister has ordered an investigation into the incident. Additionally, a compensation of 500,000 rupees has been announced for the families of the deceased, while those injured will receive 50,000 rupees each. The Prime Minister has also approved a relief package of 200,000 rupees for the families of the deceased and 50,000 rupees for the injured.
The company management has expressed their commitment to support the affected families. They will provide 3.5 million rupees in financial assistance and job support to the families of the deceased workers, along with 1.5 million rupees for the injured.
Taking this incident seriously, the district administration has initiated a magistrate inquiry. Following the directives of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, Collector and District Magistrate Amrit Vikas Topno has issued this order under Section 196 of the Indian Citizen Safety Code-2023.
The inquiry will clarify when, how, and under what circumstances the accident occurred. It will also verify the identities of the workers present at the site during the incident, as well as those who died and were injured. A detailed analysis of the factors leading to this accident will be conducted during the investigation.
