Anurag Thakur Criticizes Opposition for Opposing Womens Reservation Bill

Kolkata, April 15: Anurag Thakur, a Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), criticized opposition parties on Wednesday for not supporting the Women’s Reservation Bill. He accused them of harboring a ‘woman-opposing mindset’ and opposing this crucial legislation.

His remarks came just a day before the resumption of a three-day extended budget session in Parliament. During this session, discussions are expected on amendments to the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, 2023’ and a proposed delimitation bill to ensure one-third reservation for women in Parliament.

Speaking to reporters, Thakur stated, “Those who are against women are the ones opposing this bill. It was decided back in 1971 how many seats would be allocated. Southern states are receiving more seats than that.”

He emphasized that women are already receiving 33 percent reservation. Therefore, parties with a woman-opposing ideology, including Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, DMK, and others, are opposing it today.

Thakur also blamed the Congress-led UPA government for failing to pass this bill during its tenure. He noted that even during their ten years in power, the UPA did not allow the Women’s Reservation Bill to pass; however, the BJP has successfully passed it.

Additionally, Thakur asserted that the BJP is committed to empowering women and granting them their rights.

Meanwhile, the BJP MP also discussed the prospects of the party in the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, scheduled for next week. He claimed that the people have silenced Mamata Banerjee, predicting a certain defeat for the Trinamool Congress. “On May 4, the Trinamool Congress will be out of power. That is why Mamata Banerjee is anxious. She cannot talk about any achievements from her 15 years in office,” he stated.

Accusing the Trinamool Congress leader of involvement in corruption, he labeled Mamata Banerjee as a corrupt Chief Minister who rushed to the scene of an ED raid to protect her leaders.

Thakur concluded by asserting that once the BJP comes to power in the state, West Bengal will be free from corruption, commissions, and illegal infiltration. He believes that the state will automatically rid itself of all evils once it is free from the Trinamool Congress.
