New Delhi, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : Voting for the Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) elections is currently taking place, with the process having begun on the morning of September 18. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has claimed victories in several colleges, including a clean sweep of all eight positions at Bharti College.
The ABVP also reported similar success at Arvindo Morning College. However, allegations of electoral fraud have surfaced, with claims that attempts were made to cast votes using fake ID cards. One student was apprehended while attempting to vote with a counterfeit ID during the polling process at the evening shift in LC-1. Authorities have detained her for questioning.
Student organizations have expressed concerns that such actions threaten the integrity of the election process and have called for a thorough investigation. Voting commenced at 8:30 a.m. in morning colleges and continued until 1 p.m., followed by voting in evening colleges from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The DUSU elections feature 20 candidates competing for four key positions: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Joint Secretary. The university administration has stated that all necessary preparations for the voting process have been completed, with heightened security measures in place across the campus.
This election sees a competitive field, with the ABVP’s Yash Dubas running for President, while the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has nominated Vijay Shankar Meena. A coalition of leftist student organizations is also contesting all four major positions. The counting of votes is scheduled for Saturday.
