New Delhi, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate an international conference titled “The Future of Environmental and Climate Dynamics” on September 19. This event will address significant challenges related to the environment and climate change.
According to an official statement, the two-day conference is organized by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in New Delhi and will feature judges and judicial representatives from 17 countries. They are expected to discuss various challenges, including policy formulation, implementation, and compliance issues, while exploring ways to enhance governance and institutional collaboration in environmental matters.
The conference will also include environmental experts, judges from the Supreme Court and High Courts of India, district court judges, secretaries from various ministries, senior government officials, representatives from state judicial academies, state legal services authorities, state expert appraisal committees (SEAC), state environmental impact assessment authorities (SEIAA), state wetland authorities, and other relevant stakeholders.
This gathering aims to provide a platform for exchanging judicial perspectives and operational methods related to environmental governance. It will promote discussions on key challenges in policy-making, implementation, and compliance, while considering strategies to strengthen governance and institutional cooperation.
Earlier, on the occasion of the “International Day for Clean Air for Blue Skies,” Justice (Retired) Prakash Srivastava, Chairperson of the NGT, emphasized that clean air is not a luxury but a fundamental necessity. He remarked that air pollution presents a complex challenge as it does not respect political boundaries.
Speaking at an event organized by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change on “Clean Air Day 2026,” Justice Srivastava stated, “Development and environmental protection are not mutually exclusive; they can coexist while maintaining the quality of life for citizens.”
An official statement highlighted that it is every citizen’s responsibility to ensure future generations can live in a clean environment. Justice Srivastava urged local bodies to raise public awareness to combat pollution at its source, adopt the latest technologies, and embrace an inclusive approach that engages the entire community in addressing these issues.
Environment Secretary Tanmay Kumar noted that the government is adopting a multi-level, coordinated, and scientific approach to tackle air pollution, in line with Prime Minister Modi‘s vision. During the event, the Ministry of Environment also honored cities and wards that performed best under the National Clean Air Program (NCAP), based on rankings from the fifth “Clean Air Survey.”
