New Delhi, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : Congress Member of Parliament Imran Masood has emphasized the urgent need for a seat-sharing agreement between the Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP) as preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections ramp up. Speaking in New Delhi, Masood expressed concern that delays in finalizing the seat-sharing formula could be detrimental to their electoral strategy.
“We are actively preparing for the elections,” Masood stated. “Whether a coalition is formed or not, we are committed to contesting all 403 assembly seats. The ongoing delays are causing harm and offer no advantages.”
Masood also criticized the Election Commission’s recent decision to freeze the Trinamool Congress (TMC) election symbol for upcoming by-elections. He described this move as a significant threat to democracy, alleging that the Election Commission has become a tool for political manipulation. “First, it was Shiv Sena, then NCP, and now TMC. This indicates an intent to undermine political parties and manipulate voter outcomes.”
He pointed out the challenges of conveying election symbols to the public, which can take years, and criticized the Commission’s decision to freeze symbols. “Party organizations are built on more than just MPs and MLAs,” he added, suggesting that the actions taken by the Election Commission are widely understood to be politically motivated.
Responding to comments made by Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary regarding SP leader Akhilesh Yadav, Masood remarked that Yadav had indeed facilitated his entry into the Rajya Sabha. However, he found Chaudhary’s statements lacking substance. “If you cannot speak freely, what is the point of your words?” he questioned.
On the issue of fees imposed on UPI transactions, Masood indicated that the circumstances surrounding this decision are clear to the nation. He also mentioned an event featuring RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, noting that the current government has begun to recognize the influence of Generation Z.
