New Delhi, August 5: The Delhi Traffic Police showcased their commitment to public service by establishing a special green corridor to ensure a liver transplant patient reached Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on time from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.
This operation took place on Tuesday evening. The patient needed to fly to Hyderabad for a liver transplant surgery, and timely arrival at the airport was critical. Thanks to the traffic police’s efforts, the ambulance arrived at the airport without delay, despite heavy traffic.
According to the Delhi Traffic Police, they received information about the need for a green corridor around 4:30 PM. Upon receiving the alert, the Karol Bagh traffic circle team sprang into action. Head Constable Sunny contacted coordinating officer Tarun and created a special WhatsApp group for real-time coordination among all relevant officials.
To ensure the ambulance moved without interruptions, Head Constables Hemraj and Sukhvinder rode ahead on motorcycles, clearing the way for the ambulance.
Meanwhile, Head Constable Mahendra Singh managed traffic throughout the green corridor. Constables Pradeep Nain and Pankaj continuously monitored traffic conditions and coordinated with various traffic circles to manage potential congestion.
Despite the busy evening traffic in the national capital, the ambulance covered the approximately 20-kilometer distance from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital to Terminal 4 of IGI Airport in just 20 to 22 minutes.
This swift and efficient arrangement allowed the patient to arrive at the airport on time and board the flight to Hyderabad, where the life-saving liver transplant surgery was scheduled.
The patient’s family expressed gratitude for the quick and dedicated efforts of the Delhi Traffic Police. They noted that the timely assistance from the police made the medical journey successful.
It is worth mentioning that a few months ago, the Delhi Traffic Police also created a special green corridor during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match. At that time, injured cricketer Lungi Ngidi was transported from Arun Jaitley Stadium to the hospital in just 11 minutes.
