Delhi Traffic Police Apprehend Two Snatchers, Recover Stolen Phones and Motorcycle

New Delhi, June 7: The vigilant efforts of the Delhi Traffic Police have led to the arrest of two snatchers in the New Friends Colony area. Authorities recovered two stolen mobile phones and a motorcycle used in the crime.

According to reports, around 11 AM on Saturday, ASI Latafat Ali, Head Constable Suraj Mal, and Constable Amanish Kumar were on traffic control and violation duty at the CRRI red light on Mathura Road. They noticed a motorcycle approaching from New Friends Colony, where two young men were exhibiting suspicious behavior.

The officers also observed a government motorcycle pursuing them. Sensing the situation, the traffic staff signaled the two men to stop. Upon seeing the police, both suspects abandoned their motorcycle and attempted to flee. The traffic police chased them for approximately 200 meters before successfully apprehending them, with local police arriving shortly thereafter.

During the search, officers recovered two mobile phones from the suspects. Investigations revealed that one of the phones, an iPhone 15, had been snatched from a passerby near the Sujan Mohindra Hospital in New Friends Colony. The victim was identified as Mukul Sharma, a software engineer returning from the gym.

The arrested individuals have been identified as 31-year-old Munir Hussain and 25-year-old Azhar Ali. Police investigations revealed that both suspects have a history of criminal involvement. Munir Hussain is noted as a declared ‘anti-social element’ from the Kashmiri Gate area, with around ten criminal cases registered against him. Azhar Ali is also implicated in two cases.

Further investigations uncovered that the second recovered mobile phone had been stolen from the Sarai Kale Khan area. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at the New Friends Colony police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The Delhi Traffic Police praised ASI Latafat Ali, Head Constable Suraj Mal, and Constable Amanish Kumar for their vigilance, courage, and swift action. Officials announced that the three officers would receive commendation certificates and cash rewards for their exemplary work.
