New Delhi, August 25: The staff of the Hauz Qazi police station acted swiftly on Tuesday, leading to the arrest of a 20-year-old man and the seizure of 200 quarter bottles of illegal country liquor intended for sale in the capital.
The police also confiscated a gray scooter used for transporting the liquor. A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Delhi Excise Act, and further investigations are ongoing.
According to police, the incident occurred around 10:30 PM on August 24, when officers were conducting a routine patrol near the Lal Kuan area on Farashkhana Road.
During the patrol, the police team noticed a man riding a scooter coming from Lal Kuan. Upon seeing the police, the scooter rider suddenly turned the vehicle around and began to drive in the opposite direction, raising suspicion.
The police team immediately pursued him and stopped the scooter. Upon inspection, a large white plastic bag was found on the vehicle. The rider failed to provide satisfactory answers regarding the contents of the bag.
Upon checking the bag, the police discovered 200 bottles of country liquor, each containing 180 milliliters. The bottles were labeled “For Sale Only in Haryana.”
The suspect was identified as Akash, a 20-year-old resident of Burari in Delhi. The seized liquor has been confiscated according to the law, and the scooter used for transportation has also been impounded.
Subsequently, the police registered FIR number 389/26 under sections 33 and 38 of the Delhi Excise Act at the Hauz Qazi police station and initiated further investigations.
This operation was led by Inspector Amarendra Kumar Suman, the SHO of Hauz Qazi police station, and supervised by ACP Rajiv Bhardwaj of Kamla Market. The successful operation was carried out by SI Ranveer Singh, Head Constable Parmveer, and Constable Daya Chand.
Police stated that the vigilance and prompt action of the patrolling team were crucial in apprehending the suspect and seizing a significant quantity of illegal liquor. The confiscation of the scooter has further strengthened the investigation into the illegal transportation and supply of liquor.
During interrogation, Akash revealed that he sourced illegal liquor from areas near the Haryana border and supplied it to the Sadar area and its surroundings in Delhi to earn money and cover his personal expenses.
Investigations are ongoing regarding the source of the seized liquor and the individuals involved in its transportation and supply. Police are working to uncover whether there are others involved in the illegal liquor supply network.
Records indicate that Akash has previously been involved in a case registered under the Excise Act at the Burari police station. His name was included in FIR number 254/25 under sections 33 and 38 of the Delhi Excise Act. The police continue to investigate the matter further.
