New Delhi, August 25: The Delhi Police have labeled a viral video purportedly showing a protest at Jantar Mantar in support of reservation reforms and the rollback of UGC regulations as fake and misleading. They clarified that no such protest has been taking place at Jantar Mantar as of August 25, nor was any permission granted for one on August 24.
In an official statement, the police emphasized that the video circulating on social media, which claims to depict the fifth day of the protest, is entirely false. According to the police, Section 163 of the Indian National Security Code (BNSC) is in effect in New Delhi, prohibiting gatherings of five or more people, as well as protests, rallies, and assemblies.
The police urged the public not to share or circulate any unverified or misleading content. They also warned that legal action could be taken against those who create or spread fake news.
The controversy began when an account on the social media platform X shared a video claiming that a protest titled “Remove Reservation Movement” and “UGC Rollback” was ongoing on its fifth day. The post also alleged that an individual was chaining themselves in protest, expressing anger towards the government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the movement.
The Delhi Police dismissed these claims as misleading, asserting that no such protest is occurring at Jantar Mantar and that the assertions made in the viral video are factually incorrect.
