New Delhi: In a major breakthrough under the campaign to make Delhi drug-free by 2027, the South-East District Police Special Staff team has uncovered an international drug trafficking syndicate. A Nepalese national was arrested with 10.970 kilograms of high-quality cannabis, valued at over one crore rupees in the international market. Alongside him, a drug supplier was also apprehended.
The operation, conducted under the directions of the Delhi Police Commissioner and strict surveillance by the South-East District Police, is considered a significant blow to international drug trafficking networks.
According to a press note issued by Delhi Police on Sunday, the Special Staff of the South-East District received reliable information on 1 January through ASI Anil about the frequent movements of a drug trafficker involved in supplying high-quality cannabis in the Amar Colony area. Acting swiftly, the police formed a special team.
The team included Inspector Shubham Choudhary, SI Munesh, SI Vinod, SI Rajveer, SI Rajendra, ASI Anil, Head Constables Prem, Vivek, Dinesh, Pravesh, Sangita, and Constables Satveer, Pradeep, Choturam, and Mohit. The operation was led by Inspector Rajendra Singh Dagar, in charge of Special Staff SED, under the close supervision of ACP/Operations Hari Singh.
The police laid a strategic trap in the Amar Colony area. Around 6:50 pm, acting on a tip-off, they stopped a suspicious individual. During the search, 10.970 kilograms of high-quality cannabis packed in polythene bags were recovered from his possession.
The arrested accused was identified as Mahesh (46), a resident of Nepal. A case has been registered against him at the Amar Colony police station, South-East District.
During interrogation, the accused admitted to engaging in this illegal drug trafficking business driven by greed for quick and high profits. Despite being aware of the legal consequences, he was involved due to the lucrative returns in supplying high-quality cannabis. Preliminary investigations revealed that he was regularly involved in smuggling and distributing illicit drugs from Nepal to Delhi.
