Delhi Launches New Air Quality Monitoring Systems to Combat Pollution

New Delhi, February 9: The Delhi government has taken another significant step to tackle the issue of air pollution. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated six new Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Systems (CAQMS) today. On this occasion, the ‘Vayu Rakshak’ fleet was also flagged off, which will monitor air quality and implement pollution control measures across various areas of the capital.

The event was chaired by Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, who stated, “Today, Delhi has taken another strong step in the fight against pollution. These new stations will accurately monitor harmful pollutants like PM2.5 and PM10. Additionally, 35 electric vehicles from the ‘Vayu Rakshak’ fleet will conduct live air quality monitoring throughout the city, acting as a ‘ground force.’ Furthermore, 100 air protectors have been deployed to ensure stricter adherence to pollution control regulations.”

With the addition of these six new CAQMS, the total number of air quality monitoring systems in Delhi has risen to 46. These systems will enable continuous and accurate monitoring of air quality across different regions of the city. This will assist the administration in identifying pollution sources and taking timely, effective action.

The ‘Vayu Rakshak’ fleet is specifically designed to check air quality on-site in various areas and ensure immediate pollution control measures where necessary. This will not only strengthen the monitoring system but also enhance ground-level implementation.

The new air quality monitoring systems have been established at locations including Jawaharlal Nehru University, Indira Gandhi National Open University, Netaji Subhas University of Technology’s West Campus, CWG Akshardham, CWG Delhi Cantt, and Talkatora Garden.

Sirsa emphasized that this initiative is a testament to the Chief Minister’s commitment. “Our government does not just count problems like previous administrations; we bring solutions and implement them on the ground.”
