New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday declined to hear a petition filed by Indian Revenue Service officer Sameer Wankhede against Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan’s production house Red Chillies Entertainment and OTT platform Netflix. The single bench of Justice Purushendra Kaur directed that the case be transferred to the appropriate court with proper jurisdiction to hear such matters.
Wankhede had alleged that the web series ‘The Badshahs of Bollywood’ deliberately portrayed defamatory and insulting content against him. He claimed that the series has damaged not only his personal reputation and honour but also affected his family. Additionally, he stated that the portrayal harmed the image of the Central Narcotics Bureau, thereby undermining public trust in law enforcement and government agencies.
In his petition, Wankhede sought permanent injunctions and compensation, naming Red Chillies Entertainment, Netflix, Twitter (now X Corp), Google, Facebook, and other related parties. He argued that the series presented biased and derogatory content targeting him specifically.
The officer’s legal troubles are already under consideration in the Bombay High Court and a special NDPS court, related to the Aryan Khan case. The complaint also cited a particular scene in the series where a character uses the slogan “Satyamev Jayate” followed by an obscene gesture. Wankhede contended that this was not only offensive to him but also an insult to a national symbol and slogan, which is punishable under Indian law.
He requested compensation of Rs 2 crore, stating that the amount would be donated to Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital for cancer patient treatment.
The Delhi High Court had reserved its verdict on December 2, 2025, after hearing arguments from both sides. With the recent ruling, the matter has been sent to the court with the appropriate jurisdiction, where further legal proceedings will take place.
