Delhi High Court Issues Notice to CBI in Lalu Prasad Yadav’s IRCTC Scam Petition

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday issued a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on a petition filed by former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav. The petition challenges the trial court’s order that directed framing of criminal charges against Lalu and his family members in the alleged IRCTC hotel scam case.

After hearing the matter, a single-judge bench headed by Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma sought a response from the central agency. The court also issued notice on the criminal revision petition and the stay application filed by Lalu Prasad Yadav. The next hearing is scheduled for January 14.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader has challenged the order passed by the Rouse Avenue Court, which found sufficient grounds to proceed with charges of corruption, criminal conspiracy, and cheating against him and other accused in the IRCTC scam case.

On October 13, 2025, the Special Judge (PC Act) of Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court, Vishal Gogne, paved the way for trial by framing charges against Lalu Prasad Yadav, his son Tejashwi Yadav, wife Rabri Devi, and others under Sections 420 (cheating) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. All accused had pleaded not guilty.

The special court had reserved its order on May 29 after hearing detailed arguments on framing charges against Lalu Prasad, his family members, Prem Gupta, Sarla Gupta, and railway officials Rakesh Saxena and P.K. Goyal.

The alleged scam took place between 2004 and 2009, during Lalu Prasad’s tenure as the Union Railway Minister. It involves the leasing of two hotels without following proper rules and procedures during his ministry.
