
New Delhi, March 27: The Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has passed its budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 in the assembly. Valued at ₹1,03,700 crore, this budget has been termed historic, aimed at boosting infrastructure and public welfare.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure. She announced that an elevated road on the Munak Canal will be constructed at a cost of approximately ₹5,000 crore with the support of the central government. Additionally, three new metro corridors are expected to be completed this year, positioning Delhi as the state with the largest metro infrastructure in the country.
Focusing on the health sector, the Chief Minister stated that healthcare is a “right, not a privilege.” A budget allocation of ₹12,645 crore has been designated for the health department. She mentioned that hospitals in Madhavpur, Sirajpur, Hadasal, and Jwalapuri will be completed at a cost of ₹515 crore. The inclusion of the transgender community in the Ayushman scheme aims to make health services more inclusive.
Furthermore, the government plans to establish 750 new Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in 2026-27. A new trauma center at GTB Hospital will be built at a cost of ₹200 crore. To promote medical education, the number of colleges and seats will be expanded, targeting 820 undergraduate and 762 postgraduate seats.
The government has also announced that under the Anmol scheme, 56 types of tests for newborns will be provided completely free of charge.
The Chief Minister remarked that this budget is a significant step towards ensuring safe, accessible, and dignified health services for every citizen of Delhi, especially children.
