Delhi Government Allocates ₹500 Crore to MCD for Dust Control and Sanitation

New Delhi: In a significant move to make Delhi a cleaner, healthier, and dust pollution-free capital, the Delhi Government has approved a one-time financial grant of ₹500 crore to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

An official disclosed this information on Friday.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the fund is aimed at strengthening the city’s sanitation infrastructure and effectively controlling dust pollution.

She added that the amount will be used for sanitation activities and minor road repairs across the city, including pothole filling and patch repairs, to reduce dust generation.

The Chief Minister further announced that the Delhi Government will continue to provide an annual financial assistance of ₹300 crore to the MCD in the coming years to support long-term sanitation infrastructure development.

On Friday, a high-level review meeting was held at the Delhi Secretariat under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister. The meeting was attended by Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood, Delhi Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh, Standing Committee Chairman Satya Sharma, House Leader Pravesh Vahi, Chief Secretary Rajiv Verma, Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar, and senior officials from the Delhi Government and MCD.

After the meeting, the Chief Minister explained that part of the ₹500 crore grant will be utilized to clear long-pending dues of agencies engaged in waste management, ensuring uninterrupted and efficient sanitation services.

She also noted that another portion will cover losses in waste collection and transportation and will be used to remove accumulated waste from areas where contractors are currently not operational.
