New Delhi, February 19: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated 25 new Atal Canteens on Thursday. With this addition, the total number of meals served daily will rise to 71,000, according to government officials.

Gupta criticized previous administrations for delaying the ₹5 meal initiative for years. She pointed out that during the 11 years of the Aam Aadmi Party’s governance, canteens remained stuck in paperwork. In contrast, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has opened 71 Atal Canteens in just one year. “This reflects our efficiency and commitment,” she stated.

In a message on the social media platform X, Chief Minister Gupta announced the inauguration of the 25 new Atal Canteens in various areas of Delhi, attended by Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena. She also shared that she had a meal at the Atal Canteen located in Geeta Colony, East Delhi.

Gupta emphasized that these canteens are a source of pride for every hardworking individual. They provide warm and nutritious meals for those contributing to Delhi’s development. Inspired by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government aims to open 100 Atal Canteens in Delhi, ensuring that no needy person goes to bed hungry, with meals available for just ₹5.

The event was also attended by State Minister Harsh Malhotra, Delhi Minister Ashish Sood, BJP MLA Anil Goyal, and local dignitaries.

The inauguration of the Atal Canteens follows Gupta’s recent announcement of development projects worth millions for the Trans-Yamuna areas.

On social media, Gupta stated that this package includes the renovation of 236 roads, reconstruction of drains, and a permanent solution to waterlogging issues. “This is not just construction work; it is a commitment to provide equal rights, better facilities, and respect to those across the Yamuna, ensuring they play a leading role in the journey towards a developed Delhi,” she added.
