New Delhi, April 17: In a significant move towards building a cleaner, greener, and pollution-free Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off 200 new electric buses from the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) depot located in East Vinod Nagar on Friday.
According to an official statement, the addition of these 200 buses has increased the total number of buses in the capital to over 6,300, which includes more than 4,500 electric buses. This development makes Delhi the city with the highest number of electric buses in the country.
The Chief Minister stated that the government’s goal is to increase the number of buses to approximately 14,000 by 2028-29. These buses are equipped with CCTV cameras, panic buttons, real-time tracking, and facilities for differently-abled individuals.
On this occasion, the inter-state e-bus service between Delhi and Rohtak was also launched, the Madanpur Khadar bus terminal was dedicated to the public, and the newly constructed administrative building at the depot was inaugurated.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the government is rapidly promoting electric mobility to make the capital pollution-free. She noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the country and Delhi are continuously progressing towards new heights of development.
The event was attended by Delhi’s Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, senior officials from the relevant departments, and other dignitaries.
The Chief Minister highlighted that every initiative by the Delhi government aims to provide citizens with better connectivity, a clean environment, and modern transportation facilities. She remarked that Friday was a special day as four major projects were inaugurated simultaneously.
She mentioned that a significant number of the new buses are ‘Devi’ buses, designed to reach remote and narrow lanes, thereby offering better transportation facilities to the general public.
Additionally, the launch of the Delhi-Rohtak inter-state bus service will strengthen regional connectivity. The Chief Minister described the inauguration of the Madanpur Khadar bus terminal as a vital facility for passengers, which will help streamline transportation services.
She also noted the importance of the newly constructed administrative building at the East Vinod Nagar depot, stating that improved facilities enhance employee efficiency. This building is equipped with biometric systems and health check-up facilities to ensure that drivers operate buses in a safe and healthy condition, thereby reducing the likelihood of accidents.
