K.T. Rama Rao Blames BJP for Failure of Womens Reservation Bill

Hyderabad, April 18: K.T. Rama Rao, the executive president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has held the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) responsible for the failure of the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament.

He stated that the bill did not pass because the BJP deliberately linked it to the controversial issue of delimitation, derailing the legislative process. Rao emphasized that all political parties, including the BRS, supported women’s reservation, but the BJP’s political maneuvering hindered its success.

Rao accused the BJP of creating unnecessary complications by associating the bill with delimitation, preventing women from receiving their rightful representation. He mentioned that reservation could have been implemented immediately within the existing 543 Lok Sabha seats, but the BJP chose to politicize the issue.

The BRS leader claimed that by linking women’s reservation to delimitation, the BJP attempted to undermine southern states and ignored concerns raised by multiple parties. He stated that this attitude resulted in a historic opportunity for women’s empowerment being lost.

Rao remarked that the public has witnessed the BJP’s political drama surrounding women’s reservation. He accused the party of exploiting the issue for electoral gains and betraying women across the nation.

He demanded that the BJP introduce a new Women’s Reservation Bill without linking it to delimitation and ensure its implementation in the upcoming elections to demonstrate their seriousness.

Rao noted that delimitation is a complex issue and warned that the current approach could diminish representation for southern states in Parliament. He urged the central government to engage in comprehensive discussions and consultations before proceeding.

He added that the BJP should learn from the recent parliamentary events and refrain from imposing unilateral decisions on sensitive national issues.

K. Kavitha, president of Telangana Jagruthi, also accused the BJP of betraying Indian women once again. She asserted that the government was aware that linking delimitation to women’s reservation would lead the opposition to vote against the bill.

In her social media post, she stated that despite knowing they lacked the necessary numbers, the government hastily presented the bill. She further claimed that the emotions of women in the country are being exploited for political advantage. She urged all women to recognize this deception and teach the BJP a lesson, starting from West Bengal, where a woman is leading the fight. Additionally, she suggested that now that the bill has not passed, they should wait for the 2027 census to include a sub-quota for OBCs, as representation remains hollow until all communities are uplifted.
