Vadodara, February 3 – Delhi Capitals secured a historic place in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) final for the fourth time after defeating Gujarat Giants by 7 wickets in the knockout match held at the BCA Stadium on Tuesday.
Chasing a target of 169 runs, Delhi Capitals achieved the highest successful chase in WPL playoffs history. In the previous three seasons, the Capitals had reached the final but were unable to win the title. Interestingly, the team winning the eliminator match in all past seasons eventually lifted the trophy, giving Delhi Capitals a golden opportunity this time.
Batting first, Gujarat Giants scored 168 runs for 7 wickets. Beth Mooney played an unbeaten innings of 62 runs off 51 balls, including 6 boundaries, while Georgia Wareham contributed 35 runs. For Delhi Capitals, Chinelle Henry took the most wickets with 3, supported by Nandini Sharma with 2 wickets and Minnu Mani claiming 1 wicket.
Delhi Capitals reached the target in 15.4 overs. Lizelle Lee scored 43 runs off 24 balls with 9 boundaries, and captain Jemimah Rodrigues added 41 runs.
