Hyderabad, April 19: In the 27th match of IPL 2026, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced a narrow defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 10 runs on Saturday. This marked CSK’s fourth loss of the season, leaving captain Ruturaj Gaikwad visibly disappointed. He noted that the team’s batsmen failed to form crucial partnerships at key moments, which ultimately cost them the match.
Following the loss to SRH, Gaikwad remarked, “Given the way SRH performed in the powerplay, I anticipated a score around 220-230. Restricting them to under 200 was certainly impressive. We needed just 80 runs in the last 10 overs, but we only managed to score 4 runs in the next two overs. Chasing 12 to 13 runs per over in the final stages is always challenging.”
Despite the defeat, Gaikwad praised the performance of his bowlers. He stated, “This is the third consecutive match where our bowling unit has performed exceptionally well. I felt Abhishek played brilliantly in the powerplay. All our bowlers did well. Anshul Kamboj has been working hard on his bowling, especially in the final overs. Bowlers with such clarity, who can communicate with the captain about their plans, are rare.”
In the match held at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, SRH batted first, scoring 194 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their 20 overs. Abhishek Sharma was the standout performer, scoring a powerful 59 runs off just 22 balls, hitting 6 fours and 4 sixes. Heinrich Klaasen continued his impressive form, contributing another 59 runs off 39 balls, including 6 fours and 2 sixes. Nitish Kumar Reddy added 12 runs to the total.
Chasing a target of 195 runs, CSK could only manage 184 runs, losing 8 wickets in the process. Matthew Short was the top scorer for CSK with 34 runs, while Ayush Mhatre contributed 30 runs off 13 balls. Sarfaraz Khan scored 25 runs off 19 balls, and Shivam Dube added 21 runs off 16 balls. For SRH, Ishan Malinga took 3 wickets for 29 runs, while Nitish Kumar Reddy claimed 2 wickets.
