Guwahati, June 10: The court proceedings in the Zubeen Garg death case continued on Tuesday, with five additional witnesses providing their testimonies. This case is considered one of the most high-profile criminal cases in the state, with judicial proceedings progressing steadily.
After the hearing, Special Public Prosecutor Ziaur Kamar informed reporters that the court recorded statements from the five witnesses. The process of gathering evidence is ongoing, and further questioning of additional witnesses is anticipated in upcoming hearings.
He stated, “The trial is ongoing, and today the court examined five witnesses. The evidence collection process is in progress.”
Kamar also commented on the bail application of Siddharth Sharma, one of the main accused and Zubeen Garg’s former manager. According to him, the Guwahati High Court has scheduled a future date for hearing related to this petition and has summoned records associated with the case.
He mentioned that the High Court has directed the presentation of relevant records, after which the case will be listed for further hearings on a later date. This recent development comes after the Guwahati High Court did not consider Sharma’s previous bail application, resulting in no substantial hearing on the matter.
Sharma approached the High Court after his bail plea was rejected by the fast-track court. The lower court denied his bail application, considering the seriousness of the charges and the current status of the investigation.
The case revolves around the death of Zubeen Garg, who tragically passed away while swimming near Lazarus Island in Singapore on September 19 last year. He was scheduled to perform at the Northeast International Festival but died just a day before the event.
Following this, the Assam Police CID’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) launched an inquiry and filed a charge sheet, naming a total of seven accused, four of whom are charged with murder.
