Controversy Surrounds Chauhan Teaser as Kshatriya Council Voices Concerns

Lucknow, July 1: The teaser for the upcoming action film ‘Chauhan,’ starring renowned actor Ajay Devgn, has sparked significant controversy. Abhishek Anand, co-founder and member of the Kshatriya Council, spoke out on Wednesday regarding the issues surrounding the teaser.

Anand stated that the film is based on an incident involving stone-pelting. However, he criticized the dialogues used in the film, claiming they incite conflict between two communities. He questioned the portrayal of Pathans, noting that they primarily reside in Afghanistan, not Kashmir. If historical dialogues were to be included, he suggested that the character of Raja Man Singh should have been utilized instead.

He elaborated on Raja Man Singh’s flag, which features five colors, symbolizing his victories over the five tribes of Pathans in Afghanistan. Anand expressed concern that Bollywood has a tradition of misrepresenting history on screen. He argued that the dialogues in ‘Chauhan’ lack coherence and do not accurately reflect historical realities.

Anand pointed out that Bollywood often exploits Kshatriya and Rajput identities when convenient, yet misrepresents historical facts in films. He referenced Ajay Devgn’s previous film ‘Tanhaji,’ criticizing the portrayal of the character Uday Bhan. He also mentioned the film ‘Jodhaa Akbar,’ highlighting the lack of discourse among historians and intellectuals regarding such portrayals.

He discussed Bollywood’s agenda-setting methods, stating that the industry promotes narratives through films like ‘Tanhaji’ and ‘Jodhaa Akbar.’ Anand questioned why filmmakers do not create movies about historical figures like Babu Kunwar Singh and Dharman Bai.

Dharman Bai, also known as Dharman Devi, was a singer from the Muslim community who fought alongside Babu Kunwar Singh against the British in 1857. Anand suggested that stories like hers do not align with Bollywood’s agenda, which prefers narratives that fit their perspectives. He concluded by urging Bollywood to accurately represent history on screen.
