New Delhi, March 28: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is set to kick off this Saturday. However, a political storm has erupted in Karnataka over VIP tickets for the event. The issue has now escalated to a national level, with statements flying from various political leaders.
BJP spokesperson Syed Shah Nawaz Hussain expressed that the IPL is a tournament that captivates audiences across the country. He deemed it unfortunate that politicians are embroiled in disputes over it. He specifically mentioned D.K. Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah, criticizing their tug-of-war over IPL-related matters.
BJP spokesperson R.P. Singh launched a sharp attack on the Congress party. He stated that such behavior is part of the Congress’s culture and DNA, which repeatedly surfaces. He described it as a dynastic mindset, where they believe they are the rulers and their actions are beyond reproach. Singh also pointed out that the common people’s needs are overlooked, even as he himself, a member of the Delhi Cricket Board, stands in line for tickets.
BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal also weighed in, stating that elected representatives are chosen to serve the public. He argued that if event organizers distribute tickets according to their policy, it is appropriate. However, he criticized the notion of demanding special privileges by labeling oneself as a VIP.
The controversy began when Congress legislators in Karnataka demanded free VIP tickets and special seating arrangements for the IPL 2026 matches. This demand has intensified the situation, leading to a back-and-forth exchange of accusations between the opposing sides.
