Bhopal, May 20: A new controversy has emerged in the case of Twisha Sharma, who died under allegations of dowry harassment in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal. The police have written to her father, Navnidhi Sharma, requesting that the family arrange to take the body.
According to a letter issued by the station in charge of Katara Hills, Twisha Sharma’s post-mortem was conducted on May 13, 2026. Currently, her body is stored in the mortuary of AIIMS Bhopal at a temperature of 4 degrees Celsius. The Forensic Medicine and Pathology (FMP) department has warned that to prevent decomposition, the body needs to be kept at -80 degrees Celsius, a facility that is not available at AIIMS Bhopal.
The police clarified in their letter that they have no objection to the family’s request for the body to be preserved and for a second post-mortem to be conducted. However, due to the prolonged storage in the mortuary, there is a significant risk of decomposition. Therefore, the family is urged to make arrangements to take the body.
Twisha Sharma was married to Samarth Singh. Her family has filed a case under Section 498A for dowry harassment. The investigation is ongoing under crime number 133/2026.
The family has expressed their desire to conduct a second post-mortem, as they have doubts about the findings of the first report. On the other hand, the police have stated that it is not feasible to keep the body in the mortuary for an extended period.
According to medical experts at AIIMS Bhopal, a body can only be safely stored in a regular mortuary for a few days. Extended storage could lead to decomposition, potentially destroying evidence and impacting the investigation.
The responsibility now lies with the family to either claim the body or determine the next legal steps. The Bhopal Police Commissioner’s office has also received a petition from the family regarding the preservation of the body.
The case surrounding Twisha Sharma’s death remains highly sensitive in Bhopal. The family alleges that their daughter died due to dowry-related harassment, while the accused party denies these allegations.
The police have appealed to the family to arrange for the body to be collected as soon as possible to facilitate the continuation of legal proceedings. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are awaiting a response from the family regarding the next steps.
