Lucknow, March 19: Om Prakash Rajbhar, a minister in the Uttar Pradesh government, has sharply criticized Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, over his comments regarding an Iftar party held on a boat in the Ganges River. Rajbhar accused Yadav of making statements solely to cater to his voter base.
Speaking to a news agency, Rajbhar stated, “Akhilesh Yadav is only doing this for his vote bank. Where in the Quran does it say that one should break their fast on a boat in the Ganges? He is merely making political statements for his votes.”
Rajbhar condemned the Iftar party on the boat, saying, “This is the first time we are seeing and hearing about people breaking their fast on a boat in the Ganges and cutting biryani. This is completely wrong. The government is taking action on this matter.”
He emphasized that the rule of law prevails in Uttar Pradesh, and everyone has equal rights under the Constitution to celebrate their festivals. “There is no problem in doing so. Today marks the beginning of Chaitra Navratri, and those observing fasts and others keeping roza should continue in their own ways,” he added.
Earlier, Akhilesh Yadav defended the Iftar party on the boat, questioning what the issue was with celebrating on a boat. He remarked, “The organizers should have also fed the district magistrate, SP, and other officials. Don’t you know ‘the palm is warm, the police are soft’? If they had placed something on the palm, everything would have been fine.”
In response to a Supreme Court order regarding a petition against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee by the ED, Rajbhar stated, “I cannot comment on the court’s decision. What the court has said is correct and was said after thorough deliberation.”
Additionally, Rajbhar defended BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s remarks against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha, stating, “Kangana Ranaut is a member of the house. She must have felt that way, which is why she made such a statement.”
