Controversy Erupts Over Iftar Party on Ganges in Varanasi

Mumbai, March 18: S.T. Hasan, a leader of the Samajwadi Party, has criticized a video showing Muslim youths hosting an Iftar party on a boat in the Ganges River in Varanasi. Allegations have surfaced that bones from biryani were discarded into the sacred river, causing offense to religious sentiments.

In an interview with a news agency, Hasan questioned why Varanasi was chosen for such an event when Iftar parties could be held anywhere. He stated, “It is wrong to select Varanasi, where the Ganges holds deep significance for our Hindu brothers. It is unacceptable to hurt their religious feelings.”

He emphasized that what is wrong should not be justified under any circumstances. “If someone has thrown remnants of biryani into the river, where our Hindu brothers perform rituals and bathe, that is entirely inappropriate. We cannot accept this situation at any cost. It is simply wrong and should not have happened.”

Additionally, Hasan raised concerns regarding the Election Commission’s recent transfers of top officials following the announcement of assembly election dates in West Bengal. He questioned the rationale behind these transfers, suggesting that it might indicate an intention to manipulate the elections.

He claimed that the Election Commission has become a wing of the BJP, now intent on appointing officials who align with their agenda. “In such a scenario, can we envision fair elections? We believe there is a significant conspiracy against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee,” he asserted.
