Congress Women Leaders Celebrate Defeat of Womens Reservation Bill in Parliament

New Delhi, April 18: Congress party’s women leaders expressed their joy over the defeat of the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament. They hailed it as a significant victory for national unity.

Maharashtra Congress leader Sandhya Sawalake described the failure to pass the bill as a “black day” for the BJP, emphasizing that it represents a win for democracy and women. She criticized the central government for spreading falsehoods about women’s issues since 2014, asserting that the bill was not about reservation but rather about delimitation.

In response to BJP leader Smriti Irani’s statements, Congress leader Sawalake remarked that she thought Irani had left the country, as she had not been visible since the price of cylinders rose to 400 rupees. She urged for a dialogue to question the truth behind Irani’s claims.

She noted that the central government had passed the Women’s Reservation Bill in 2023. If the government genuinely supports women, it should have implemented the bill immediately upon its passage.

Another Congress leader, Supriya Srinate, stated that this victory signifies the unity and integrity of the nation. She emphasized that the government, filled with arrogance, attempted to divide the country but faced a united opposition that would not allow such schemes, especially when it comes to half the population.

Congress leader Shama Mohammad criticized the BJP for lacking constructive work and being against women. She reiterated that when the bill was passed in 2023, they called for its immediate implementation, which was ignored. She accused the government of attempting to deceive women with its actions.
