Patna, April 20: A significant protest march, dubbed the ‘Jan Aakrosh Mahila March’, was organized by the BJP in Bihar to oppose the non-passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill (131st Amendment) in the Lok Sabha. A large number of women gathered at Kargil Chowk in Gandhi Maidan, Patna, to participate in the march. Many carried placards expressing their views on the bill, while one woman staged a unique protest by chaining herself.
BJP leader Shreyasi Singh, present at the march, stated, “The Nari Shakti Vandan Act was a moment of joy for women across India. On April 17, it was not the bill that fell in the house, but the respect for women in the eyes of the leaders of the opposition alliance did. The opposition raises slogans for half the population from the platform, making populist promises to women before elections. However, when it comes to political participation for women, they prevent the bill from passing. They celebrate with applause and smiles, showing that they have denied our women their due respect. This is an insult to women across the country.”
BJP MP Dharmshila Gupta remarked, “At the behest of Rahul Gandhi, the opposition parties have worked to block the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, stripping women of their rights. Their intentions are flawed. They (Rahul Gandhi) do not want women in this country to have leadership opportunities; they only see Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. In contrast, Prime Minister Narendra Modi aims to uplift the most marginalized women in society. The BJP provides opportunities to its workers. The opposition has committed a disgraceful act regarding the reservation bill. Even West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, a woman herself, has worked to block this bill. Women across the country are furious, and protests will be held nationwide.”
Bihar government minister Ramkripal Yadav stated, “Today, the ‘Jan Aakrosh March’ for women is taking place in Patna. The Congress has acted against women’s rights. They have made a serious mistake.”
Bihar BJP president Sanjay Sarawagi added, “Today, our sisters are leading a massive protest march in Patna. The way the women of this country have been insulted is unacceptable. The leaders who opposed the Women’s Reservation Bill have women in their own families who are also suffering today. This protest will not be limited to Patna; it will extend to districts and blocks.”
JDU leader Shrawan Kumar emphasized, “Protests should be held across the country. It is essential to start a movement against Rahul Gandhi, the Congress party, and their allies. Only then can we protect the dignity and respect of women.”
