Bhopal, April 27: Congress legislator Anubha Munjare launched a fierce attack on the BJP-led Madhya Pradesh government during a special one-day session of the state assembly on Monday. She highlighted issues related to women’s safety, administrative inaction, and the challenges faced by elected representatives.
Munjare drew attention to a protest ongoing in Balaghat, where women have been staging an indefinite sit-in for nearly 20 days against the operation of a liquor shop near an ancient Durga temple at Hanuman Chowk.
The Congress legislator accused the district administration of failing to address the concerns of local residents despite the prolonged movement.
She stated, “Women have been protesting for 20 days, yet the administration continues to ignore their demands. If our mothers and sisters are not safe, then the slogan of ‘Nari Shakti’ becomes meaningless.”
Describing this as administrative negligence, Munjare also raised a personal issue. She mentioned that her personal assistant (PA) was removed without any explanation. Munjare told the assembly, “I have been without a PA for the past six months. I have repeatedly raised this issue at every level, but my concerns have gone unheard.”
She emphasized that this situation reflects a broader pattern where even elected representatives are deprived of basic support. “If a legislator’s voice is not being heard, one can only imagine the plight of ordinary citizens,” she added.
Munjare remarked, “While there is constant talk about empowering women, the issues they face—whether they are public representatives or common citizens—are being overlooked at the grassroots level.”
Speaking on the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ in the assembly, she stated that Congress supports 33 percent reservation for women in Parliament. However, she accused the central government of politicizing the issue.
She said, “A false narrative is being created that the opposition is obstructing its implementation. Efforts were made to advance related measures, including delimitation, during parliamentary proceedings, which we opposed.”
