Bhopal, September 1: Congress legislator and former Madhya Pradesh minister Jayavardhan Singh has raised concerns regarding the accuracy of school education data published in a government booklet. He has demanded an investigation into these figures.
Jayavardhan Singh addressed a letter to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s office, the Chief Secretary, the Principal Secretary of the School Education Department, and the Assembly Secretariat, requesting confirmation of the information presented in the booklet titled “Two Years of Development and Service.” He has also called for action against officials if the data is found to be incorrect.
This booklet was distributed during a two-day Young Legislators Conference held in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly on March 30 and 31, 2026. According to Singh, it details the state government’s achievements and includes a speech by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.
Singh specifically questioned the information related to the School Education Department, particularly the data on students benefiting from laptop and scooter schemes during the 2025-26 academic year. He asked, “How can the department have information on students benefiting from these schemes for 2025-26 when the 12th-grade exam results were not declared until March 30-31?”
He requested details about the sources and basis of the data and demanded that the department publicly release the relevant verification reports. Singh also criticized the way the booklet presents the state’s education system, pointing out schools operating without teachers or with only one teacher.
He noted that the shortage of teachers remains a significant challenge and should be considered when evaluating the state of school education in Madhya Pradesh.
The Congress leader also sought clarification regarding the claim in the booklet that there was an improvement in exam results from 2024-25 compared to 2023-24. He stated, “If the government is presenting data as achievements, it should also make year-on-year exam results, pass percentages, student numbers, and related departmental reports public.”
He emphasized that the presence of incorrect or unverified information in any publication detailing the Chief Minister’s speech and the Madhya Pradesh government’s achievements is a serious matter.
Singh has demanded an investigation into the data and accountability for officials who provided or published unverified information. The Madhya Pradesh government has yet to respond to Jayavardhan Singh’s allegations.
