Apple Readies for iPhone Duo Launch with Large Displays at Fifth Avenue
Giant installations for the upcoming iPhone Duo appeared outside Apple's Fifth Avenue store as the launch date approaches.

NEW YORK, Oct 23: Apple has begun setting up large outdoor displays for its new iPhone Duo at the Fifth Avenue store in New York, ahead of the device’s launch on October 23.
Images shared on social media platform X reveal the displays wrapped in black covers, concealing their exact design. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this launch will see over 150 units of the iPhone Duo available for demonstrations and displays at the Fifth Avenue location. In contrast, typical non-flagship locations are expected to receive around 20 units each.
The Fifth Avenue store has undergone several changes in its promotional displays over the past month, recently adding color for the iPhone 18 Pro release. With the upcoming launch of the iPhone Duo, Apple is focusing heavily on the retail experience, including new fixtures to demonstrate the device’s foldable features.
In terms of availability, Apple has indicated that walk-in purchases will be limited in the U.S. and other markets. Customers in China, France, Japan, and additional locations must reserve a pickup time online, and the company anticipates that launch day inventory will sell out rapidly.
Details About the iPhone Duo
The iPhone Duo, retailing at a starting price of $2,000, represents Apple’s first foray into the foldable smartphone market. Initial impressions from testers highlight the device’s versatility, with a 5.4-inch outer display that opens to reveal a 7.6-inch inner screen. This format allows for innovative uses such as dual-screen operations and unique folding positions, although some applications currently lack optimization for the larger format.
“The iPhone Duo is the biggest change Apple has made to the iPhone in its nearly 20-year history,” said CNN.
Despite its advantages, users have reported frustrations with certain apps that have not yet adapted to the Duo’s dimensions. Popular applications like Google Maps and Gmail have been noted as needing further updates to fully utilize the device’s capabilities.
Multiple features allow creative uses of the device, such as utilizing it akin to a mini tablet for watching videos or running apps side-by-side. However, the experience can vary depending on the apps’ compatibility and screen usage.
“For its price, the iPhone Duo should be able to do everything a regular phone can do and more,” remarked a reviewer.
Expected Launch Day Details
As Apple gears up for the launch event at Fifth Avenue, the company’s strategy seems focused not just on selling a product, but also on providing an immersive retail experience to highlight the iPhone Duo’s unique features. According to reports, MacRumors plans to cover the launch event on-site.
