New Delhi, June 25: Senior BJP leader Gaurav Vallabh expressed his candid views on several issues on Thursday. He commented on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi‘s recent statement, Gandhi’s written apology submitted to the Jabalpur High Court in a defamation case, and the inclusion of a chapter on the Emergency in NCERT textbooks. Accusing Congress of undermining the Constitution, he stated that the party should apologize to the nation.
In response to Jairam Ramesh’s allegations that the BJP is attempting to secure a two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha, Vallabh insisted that Congress leaders should first publicly apologize to the citizens for the Emergency imposed in 1975. He accused the then Congress government of orchestrating a complete plan to dismantle the Constitution and eliminate citizens’ fundamental rights.
Vallabh remarked that the government led by Indira Gandhi weakened constitutional institutions and centralized power during that period. The Emergency remains a haunting chapter in Indian democracy, one that still sends shivers down the spines of those who lived through it. It is crucial for the new generation, whether Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennials, or others, to understand how Congress attempted to impact the Constitution and democratic rights.
He urged Jairam Ramesh and other Congress leaders to stand outside their homes and humbly apologize to the nation, as Congress conspired to abolish the fundamental rights of the people. A party that can impose an Emergency in the country has no moral right to question or preach about the Constitution.
Vallabh also targeted Rahul Gandhi regarding the written apology submitted to the Jabalpur High Court concerning the defamation case involving Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s son, Kartikeya Singh. He stated that seeking forgiveness is not new for Rahul Gandhi, who has repeatedly expressed regret over various statements. Gandhi often makes accusations without facts and sufficient information, only to apologize later after court interventions.
He pointed out that Gandhi has previously apologized regarding the Rafale issue, comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, statements about Veer Savarkar, and now in the case involving Kartikeya Singh. Vallabh mockingly referred to Gandhi as “Mafiavir” and noted that this has been the pattern of many Congress leaders. He further stated that the country has moved beyond dynastic politics, and there is no inclination to accept Congress’s model.
On the question of including a chapter on the Emergency in the new NCERT textbooks, Vallabh supported the decision. He emphasized that students, especially the youth, should know what transpired on June 25, 1975, and how it impacted democratic institutions and fundamental rights. This information should reach the new generation through textbooks, highlighting the attempts to challenge the Constitution and democratic systems during that time, while the citizens upheld democratic values. The Emergency is a significant event in the history of Indian democracy, and Congress should be held accountable for it.
