Congress Leader Calls for Respecting Court Rulings and Accountability from BJP

Mumbai, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : Congress leader and Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Bhai Jagatap addressed the recent court ruling related to Rahul Gandhi, stating it should not be perceived as a setback. He emphasized that if the court deemed the lower court’s summons appropriate, they would comply. Jagatap also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP leaders for their comments on historical figures like Pandit Nehru and Indira Gandhi, asserting that such remarks should be curtailed to prevent hurting sentiments, as mandated by the Constitution.

“This is not a setback at all. Given the nature of recent court rulings, I prefer not to comment further. If the court believes the lower court’s summons was justified, we will respect that decision,” he remarked. He further questioned the ongoing derogatory remarks made by the Prime Minister and BJP officials against opposition leaders, particularly the Gandhi family and Nehru, suggesting that there should be restrictions on such statements.

Regarding calls for Rahul Gandhi to apologize, Jagatap asserted that the Constitution does not require such an action and that the court does not supersede constitutional principles. When asked about a BJP worker’s demand for an apology from Gandhi, he dismissed the necessity of such a request.

He reiterated that if apologies were warranted, then Prime Minister Modi should also be held accountable for his comments about Nehru and Indira Gandhi. “BJP leaders might find themselves needing to apologize daily, given their persistent criticisms of the Gandhi family,” he added.

In response to a question about communal tensions during festivals, Jagatap highlighted that the pressing issues in the country are unemployment, education, paper leaks, children’s futures, and inflation, which the government fails to address. He criticized the government’s claim of a 7.8% GDP growth, stating that ordinary citizens do not feel the benefits of such figures. He noted that former finance secretary Subhash Chandra Garg and former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan have raised concerns about the government’s GDP statistics.
