Congress Accuses BJP of Misusing Sardar Patels Legacy
Congress leaders criticize BJP for allegedly exploiting Sardar Patels legacy while ignoring his principles and ideals.

New Delhi, October 31 (Daily Kiran) : Congress leaders have targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly misusing the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India, during the celebration of his birth anniversary. On October 31, Union Home Minister Amit Shah‘s remarks sparked criticism from Congress, which accused the BJP of leveraging Patel’s name while disregarding his core values and beliefs.
Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala highlighted that the organization “Sardar Smriti Trust” is hosting a significant event to honor Patel. He criticized Amit Shah for organizing programs in Patel’s memory but claimed that the Home Minister is working to erase his teachings and ideals. Surjewala also suggested that there is a prevailing animosity among BJP leaders towards Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel, a sentiment he believes is widely recognized across the nation.
In a similar vein, Congress leader Salman Khurshid emphasized that Sardar Patel deserves the same respect as other great leaders of the country. He affirmed Congress’s commitment to acknowledging Patel’s contributions and adhering to his principles. Khurshid expressed concern that Shah’s comments could tarnish Patel’s image and the respect he commands among the public, questioning the rationale behind such statements.
Congress MP K. Suresh also accused the BJP of exploiting Patel’s name for political gain. He reiterated that Congress honors Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, and all leaders who contributed to the freedom movement, asserting that the BJP is merely attempting to gain political advantage by focusing on Patel.
Meanwhile, in response to Amit Shah’s comments about implementing a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party MP Avadhesh Prasad dismissed it as a “daydream,” asserting that there is little chance of the BJP forming a government in the upcoming elections. He claimed that the BJP has lost the trust and confidence of the public.
