BJPs Sambit Patra Accuses Congress of Mocking Democracy and Revisits Historical Vote Theft Claims
Sambit Patra criticizes Congress for alleged vote theft and mocks their parliamentary conduct during a press conference in New Delhi.

New Delhi, October 31 (Daily Kiran) : Sambit Patra, the national spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), launched a scathing attack on Congress and other opposition parties during a press conference held at the BJP headquarters. He accused them of mocking democracy, claiming that Congress is currently hosting a “mock parliament” while its members engage in disruptive behavior, such as sleeping, winking, and causing chaos in the actual Parliament.
Responding to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s allegations regarding vote theft, Patra asserted that the first instance of vote theft in India occurred during Jawaharlal Nehru’s tenure. He alleged that senior Congress leaders had voted in favor of making Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Prime Minister, but those votes were ignored, allowing Nehru to become the country’s first unelected Prime Minister.
“Today, October 31, marks the birth anniversary of the esteemed Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. If any vote theft ever occurred in India, it was orchestrated by none other than Jawaharlal Nehru, a member of the Gandhi family. Prominent Congress leaders voted to make Patel Prime Minister, but those votes were stolen, resulting in Nehru’s ascension to power. This deprived Patel of his rightful position and brought him humiliation,” Patra stated.
Patra also challenged Kharge’s claim that 130 million votes had been stolen, arguing that such a massive fraud would have sparked widespread protests across the country. He explained that the Special Intensive Review (SIR) process is ongoing and not yet complete. Therefore, the absence of names from various states’ final voter lists does not indicate that those votes have been stolen. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that only Indian citizens have the right to vote, questioning whether illegal immigrants should be allowed to participate in elections.
Describing the SIR process as transparent, Patra noted that individuals who believe their names are missing from the voter list can fill out Form-6 to register. In response to Kharge’s claims regarding amendments to Form-6, he clarified that no changes had been made to the form itself; instead, a declaration was added. He acknowledged Kharge’s seniority but suggested that he had been misinformed on this matter.
Patra took a jab at those providing information to Kharge, remarking that they are often caught sleeping in Parliament. He also referenced a Supreme Court ruling from May 27, 2026, which stated that no amendments had been made to Form-6, only a declaration had been appended.
Furthermore, Patra dismissed allegations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, who Kharge claimed made decisions regarding SIR without consulting the other two election commissioners. Patra clarified that all three commissioners had met and unanimously agreed on the SIR decision.
He concluded by asserting, “You can lie a hundred times, but that won’t make it true. The Chief Election Commissioner and the other two commissioners have clearly stated through images and statements that the SIR decision was made by consensus.” Patra criticized Kharge for attempting to validate Rahul Gandhi’s accusations through repeated falsehoods.
